Monday — The big kitchen makeover is underway

Under the leadership of the Skidmore ladies and supported by so many NBYG teens and parents, we’ve made renovating the Teen Girls’ Dorm a priority. Over the past few years, NBYG crews have redone the living area and the front porch. Now we’re tackling the kitchen.

Why so much emphasis on the teen girls? The teenage years are a critical time in a young woman’s life. So many life decisions are made. So many critical choices. We wanted to create a place where they can feel more at home, the kind of place that might encourage them to stay longer. Because, if they stay, their college is paid for and, when they eventually leave The City of Children, they’ll be better ready to meet the challenges of the world.

The opportunities are vastly different for a teenager leaving the home without a degree versus a more mature twenty-year-old woman with a college diploma. So we’re making the most of their home so they are encouraged to make the most of their life. Thanks so much for all of you who contributed so generously to this cause. Thanks, too, to Melissa Skidmore and Edwin Wilhite and the Skidmore girls for spearheading this work.
