Monday Food Crew — Gathering around the table

Food is at the heart of so many scriptures and Bible stories. There’s the manna God provided in the wilderness, the Passover meal that served as a reminder of God’s deliverance, the feeding of the 5,000, the feast the good father lavished on his prodigal son, parables about the chief seats at feasts and banquets, there’s the table service Jesus instituted and then there’s the poignant meal of fish He cooks over a campfire on the beach before his ascension into Heaven. Just to name a few.

Food for thought...and prayer...as we gathered the supplies for the 30 food baskets that we will distribute to our fellow Christians here the rest of the week. We also cooked a hotdog meal for the neighborhood children and adults and served them at the Maneadero Church of Christ building where our Brother Alfredo ministers.

We’re delivering twice as many food baskets this year as we did last year. In addition to the food we give to the local Christians, we’ll ask them to take a second food basket for them to give to a family whom they can invite to church. Which is one of the ways Jesus uses food. He led with satisfying their hunger and then He proceeded to offer nourishment for their souls. Tuesday and Wednesday, you’ll find out more about the families this food will bless when we deliver the food baskets at their homes.

Lavishing blessings on our brother’s and sister’s in Christ in Mexico hopefully serves as a reminder of the many times God has lavished blessings on us. Even the act of gathering and purchasing the food at the local Costco provided an opportunity for people to ask us what all of this was for? It’s an opportunity for us and them to see Jesus. He’s here. You just have to look. Thanks for your support in this effort. Pray the extra baskets that are given away by the families find their way to people truly in need...of physical and spiritual nourishment and this effort and God’s grace will provide both.

Unloading the van to the Maneadero Church of Christ building with the help of some of the children.

Each of the food baskets we’ll leave with members of the Maneadero Church of Christ will contain these items and will last the family for weeks....

Before the neighborhood children and mamas came to eat, one little boy named Jesus sat down with us...so naturally we had to bring to life a famous Da Vinci painting. Do you know which one it is?

Because one little boy called me Santa, I had the good fortune to play Santa with Ellie Stephens.

The mad dash to Santa, Ellie and the toys donated by so many of you. Thank you. We found them good homes.

At the end of the meal there was one little boy who insisted he’d been good. But Santa wasn’t so sure....
